DESCRIPTION:Many of us are familiar with the very popular Buddy Walk that happens every year in Rehoboth Beach.  In recent times\, support for our local neighbors who have Downs Syndrome has expanded in an exciting way!  Jim Watson — a former healthcare executive and parent of a son with Downs Syndrome — has taken awareness and fundraising to the next level with the creation of Uncle David’s Ice Cream Shop.  With a retail store opening soon on Rehoboth Avenue\, and mobile trucks and carts available now for corporate\, community and neighborhood events\, support for Delaware residents with Downs Syndrome is growing!  One of the best facets of Uncle David’s Ice Cream Shop (serving Hopkins Dairy ice cream by the way!) is that every entity is staffed by paid employees with Downs Syndrome.  A total win-win!

SUMMARY:Friends of the Fallen - Dover Air Force Base
DESCRIPTION:A rare opportunity to learn about a behind-the-scenes volunteer organization that supports our deceased service members.  Friends of the Fallen is a small group of trained civilians who volunteer to support military families during the time that their deceased loved ones arrive at Dover Air Force Base.  Dover Air Force Base is the first point on American soil that our fallen military members are received. There are strict protocols that are followed to ensure that privacy\, respect and tender care is provided for the families that arrive from all over the country\, with just a few hours’ notice\, to receive their loved one’s remains for what is called a “Dignified Transfer.”  Mrs. Laura Bashista\, President of Friends of the Fallen\, will be sharing insight in to what is involved during this fragile and traumatic time for our military families\, and it all happens very close to us at Dover Air Force Base.
