Friends of the Fallen – Dover Air Force Base

A rare opportunity to learn about a behind-the-scenes volunteer organization that supports our deceased service members.  Friends of the Fallen is a small group of trained civilians who volunteer to support military families during the time that their deceased loved ones arrive at Dover Air Force Base.  Dover Air Force Base is the first point on American soil that our fallen military members are received. There are strict protocols that are followed to ensure that privacy, respect and tender care is provided for the families that arrive from all over the country, with just a few hours’ notice, to receive their loved one’s remains for what is called a “Dignified Transfer.”  Mrs. Laura Bashista, President of Friends of the Fallen, will be sharing insight in to what is involved during this fragile and traumatic time for our military families, and it all happens very close to us at Dover Air Force Base.
