ADULT PROGRAMS

In addition to our ongoing support of area veterans, the Long Neck Sunrise Rotary Club is addressing the issues of lack of basic literacy skills and opioid abuse facing many adults in Sussex County and helping to provide a safety net.

Poor literacy and English skills impact all aspects of family life including education, family life, employability, job skills, health and financial literacy especially with the immigrant population. Opioid addiction has a devastating effect on members of the community often culminating in incarceration or even death. Our club is currently exploring ways to effectively help combat the opioid crisis.

Our club actively supports Literacy Delaware, a statewide literacy organization that provides tutoring services through volunteer tutors to adults with poor reading and English language skills. If you or someone you know is in need of their services or if you are interested in getting more information about becoming a tutor, send an email to director@literacydelaware.org.

The Club holds an annual fund raising project, Flags for Heroes, to coincide with Veteran’s Day in November.  The proceeds of these funds are donated to organizations in the area that provide support programs to area veterans.  These include, but are  not limited to:  The American Legion Post 28, Warrior Community Connect (formerly Operation Second Chance) and Home of the Brave.
